Meet The Team
Founder, Accredited Counsellor & Life-Coach
Gary Napier (MSc Psychology)
Specialist - Relationships, PTSD, Self-Esteem and Anger Management
Why therapy? 15 years ago, therapy not only healed my family; it saved me! I came from a cultural background where counselling was for people who were visibly desperate and in need of help. Therapy was not for black men, born and raised in South London! How wrong was I. My favourite hour of the week was each Wednesday, at 13:00, visiting my therapist, whose practice was located in Dulwich, South London. That was the time when no masks were worn, and I was able to be me; unashamedly. It was not the most comfortable hour of the week, as my therapist appropriately challenged my thoughts and subsequent actions. Yet, it was my ‘safe space’, which allowed the real Gary Napier to evolve.
Resulting from this experience, my main passion was to help bring freedom to others in a similar mode. I learnt that real change cannot occur unless we address the thoughts, beliefs, and values, that are restricting our true potential. Embarking on my PhD pathway in Psychology, my main mode of therapy is psychodynamic, as it allows the therapist to explore and identify the subconscious thoughts, that may be keeping the client ‘stuck’ in their pain. For this reason, I have intentionally focused on working on the ‘inner child’. Whether I am meeting clients to help with relationship challenges or individuals seeking to overcome a personal issue, in most cases, the wounded child is the person in desperate need of healing.
Above all, having the right ‘connection’ with your therapist is fundamental in your journey towards healing and freedom. The Gap Counselling team offer a ‘safe’ space, whereby you, as the client, should expect to feel comfortable, to share openly, without any fear of feeling judged, criticised, or ashamed. Thus, it is imperative that each member of the team carries a non-judgmental mindset that fosters warmth and trust with you, the client. In sum, the ability to listen with sincerity, whilst offering supportive boundaries that protect both the client and the therapist, whilst providing you with the tools to help you to move forward, are non-negotiable.

My aim is to create a safe space through psychotherapy. A space where you can write your own story, free from pain and the preconceptions of how you should be feeling. For me, psychotherapy is a partnership where we each bring our own expertise: you, about your own life, feelings and life direction, and me, about mental health and psychology.
My ‘soft-skills’ such as empathy and compassion originate from my personal experiences in physical and mental health, as well as from being a mother, a woman and a human being, facing the 21st centuries uncertainties and paradox of digital hyper connection and interpersonal loneliness. After a childhood spent in France, I have lived in many places across the globe and I like to bring an international mindset into my work.
My ‘hard-skills’ come from my counselling level 4 training and my Masters’ Degree in Clinical Psychology. It has taught me to understand psychological challenges through the interaction of one self with a cultural and family heritage and a social and political environment. I have specific knowledge in the fields of maternity, trauma, physical illnesses, and bereavement.
Counselling and psychotherapy is far more than a job to me. It is my true passion and my way of participating in making this world a better place.

Overcoming an array of personal obstacles means I am able to have deep empathy for you and encourage hope. Whether it be grief and loss, parental separation and divorce, relationship issues, coping with a loved one suffering with cancer or any mental/physical illness or struggling with lack of direction and self-esteem.
My personal insight comes from growing and learning through my own difficult experiences. The struggle is real and unfortunately inevitable but what you think and feel is valid and deserves to be voiced. I truly believe that knowledge is power and that is why I want to share it with you.
Through counselling, I want to listen to you, your experiences and your feelings. I am offering my authentic self and my knowledge to support you, to provide understanding and a safe space for you to be heard without judgement.
I am now proudly part of the ACCPH (Accredited Counsellors, Coaches, Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists). It has been an ever-changing road to get to where I am now, originally from the South-East of England and currently living in Mallorca.
I offer and recommend face-to-face sessions but also online if this is your preference. The first step is often the most difficult but you are not alone.

Client Liaison
Anna Tombs
Anna, aka 'lovely Anna'(!) has recently joined The Gap Counselling as the 'Client Liaison'. Anna's natural warmth, radiant smile, and quick wit, oozes confidence that our current and future clients will be in safe hands. Reporting to Rachael, Anna will be directly responsible for managing the client bookings and will be your first point of call regarding any queries or questions.
To date, Anna has gained extensive organisation skills, within various industries. She is also our secret 'PR' agent! Anna makes good use of her communication skills to promote our charity events among friends and local businesses, resulting in generating awareness and donations for our worthwhile charities.
Similar to Rachael, we are looking forward to Anna's role growing organically during her time with us.
Operations Manager
Rachael Wilson
Rachael joined The Gap Enterprises in May 2023 (part-time), as Gary's PA, and has been chiefly responsible for organising his time. Thus, Rachael assumed her duties as his 'bodyguard' with ease, taking control of his diary and ensuring that his time was protected to offer his best to clients.
However, Rachael's contributions to the business extended beyond 'babysitting' Gary! She has been instrumental in implementing systems and procedures to allow the business to operate more effectively. Rachael has also been a key player in organising the mental health charity events hosted by The Gap Counselling.
Indeed, we initially recruited her for these skills and talents, therefore, we are pleased to say that from December 2024, Rachael will join The Gap Counselling full-time, as the Operational Manager! Within this role, we foresee that Rachael will have the opportunity to fully utilise her obvious planning and organisational gifts, which will allow the business to have the right structure to grow organically, creating a wider service for our clients.

My aim is to help you to overcome whatever is preventing you from living your best life, by actively listening and supporting you in a safe environment.
As an accredited counsellor, I am fully committed to doing my best for you. I am a member of the Accredited Counsellors, Coaches, Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists (ACCPH), and I abide by their code of ethics and practice.
From a young age I was very unsure of my own identity and what I had to offer to the world. Growing up without my dad made me feel like I was a victim of rejection. Shyness crippled me and being bullied on multiple occasions resulted in a sense of loneliness and fear of sharing my inner world with others. Anger was a friend to me; I was angry at my dad for abandoning me and angry about my shyness.
As life went on, I learned to love, like and accept myself (both the good and bad aspects). This resulted in a freedom that I had never experienced before and gave me an appetite to help other people in their life.
You do not need to go through your difficulties alone. If you feel that I could be of help to you then please contact me.
What We Value
We believe that every person deserves to be heard and understood. At The Gap Counselling, everyone is treated as an individual and there is no ‘one-size fits all’ treatment. We offer high-quality counselling and aim to provide an outstanding service to all our clients.
We believe that each person has the ability within themselves to work through their struggles and issues, and as counsellors, we stand in a non-biased, non-judgemental position. Our role is to walk alongside the individual or couple and help them draw out the tools needed for their own healing.
Although we are trained and experienced, we do not pretend to know all the answers but it is the therapeutic relationship between the counsellor and the clients that brings a clearer vision of restoration and freedom.
The Gap Counselling is committed to regularly reviewing its training and services to continue improving and bringing value to the mental health industry.

Our Story
The story really begins in my childhood. I faced a great deal of trauma in my youth, which resulted in my father leaving the family home. This made me angry and it revealed itself in regular outbursts during my teenage years and even into adulthood.
At first, I never believed that counselling would help me. However, a counsellor was recommended by a work colleague. I reluctantly contacted them but I can honestly say, this was the best decision I made because it totally changed my life.
After my healing process was completed, I wanted to help others become free from their trauma and pain so I retrained and became an accredited counsellor and life coach. I have been practising counselling for over 12 years and in 2019 The Gap Counselling was born.
The Gap Counselling is now a growing practice, and It is my passion to train others in this field. We have several students on our accredited training programmes, who are becoming highly skilled and compassionate counsellors.
The need for counselling and therapy is rising, and getting good quality and empathetic counsellors are essential in helping anyone through their healing. It is our aim at The Gap Counselling to support clients through their treatment with counselling and education.

Yvonne Ainsworth
Hello, I’m Yvonne. I’m passionate about helping others cope with life’s problems and, in particular with grief, having experienced many losses myself.
For many grieving is a very lonely, private experience, often seen as unacceptable in company. In offering Bereavement Counselling I join my clients on their grieving journey, listening with empathy, allowing them to talk freely about their struggles, their thoughts and emotions resulting from their loss, and enabling them to find hope, purpose and happiness in life again.
My online bereavement counselling encompasses loss of loved ones of all ages, including miscarriages, and isnot limited to our family and friends, but also our pets. I see it as a privilege to come alongside others in their time
of need and would love to help you if you’re struggling with loss.
