What comes next? Making space for yourself when life changes. "The Next Chapter" an event for women in Mallorca.
Life can change before we have had time to work out what we want from it. Children become more independent. A relationship changes. Work no longer feels fulfilling. A move to Mallorca brings new possibilities, but also questions about where we belong.
Sometimes there is no single turning point. You simply notice that the life you have built does not quite reflect the person you are now.
If you have been asking yourself, “What do I want for my future?”, you do not need to have the answer before you begin exploring it. Giving yourself time to ask the question is a useful first step. Attending this event for women in Mallorca, could be a wonderful first step.
When familiar roles start to change
Many women spend years responding to other people's needs. Being a parent, partner, colleague or carer can be meaningful, but those responsibilities can leave little room to consider your own priorities.
When a familiar role changes, the freedom that follows may feel welcome, unsettling or both. You might know what you no longer want, while finding it harder to describe what you would like instead.
Rather than putting pressure on yourself to make a big decision, start with something more manageable: what matters to you now? What would you like more time for? Which parts of your life still feel like a good fit?
The stories we tell ourselves
“It is too late to try something different.”
“I should be grateful for what I have.”
“I am just not a confident person.”
These thoughts can feel convincing, particularly when they have become familiar. Exploring them does not mean ignoring real responsibilities or pretending that change is easy. It means considering whether an old assumption is still useful, and whether it tells the whole story.
Perhaps you lack experience in something new, rather than confidence in every area of your life. Perhaps appreciating what you have can sit alongside wanting something different.
Rediscovering confidence and finding your voice
Confidence can begin with small decisions: expressing a preference, asking a question or making time for something you care about.
Finding your voice might mean speaking more openly about your needs. It could mean recognising that your opinions have changed. It may be as simple as allowing yourself to say, “I would like to explore this,” before you know exactly where it will lead.
You do not need a complete plan for the next ten years. A clearer sense of what matters now can help you decide which next step is worth considering.
